Ruto Appoints Defeated Ol Kalou UDA Candidate to Nairobi Rivers Commission

President William Ruto has appointed Samuel Muchina Nyaga, who was a candidate in the Ol kalou by election as a member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission.

In a gazette notice dated July 22 2026, members of the public have been notified of the appointment made by President Ruto.

“It is notified for the general information of the public, and pursuant to Gazette Notice No. 13907 of 2024, read together with Section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, hereby appoint Samuel Muchina Nyaga to be a member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission,” read the notice.

This comes barely two weeks after Samuel Muchina lost the Ol Kalou by-election to a DCP candidate, Samuel Kamau Ngotho.

Appointment Effective July 22 2026

This appointment takes effect from July 22 2026. Muchina lost the Ol Kalou by election to Samuel Kamau who is now the new member of parliament of Ol Kalou.

The appointment of Amos Chege Mugo has been revoked by the president as Muchina has replaced him effective immediately.

“The appointment of Amos Chege Mugo is revoked,” read the notice.

As a board member of Nairobi Rivers Commission Muchina will be given the mandate to coordinate multi-agency efforts which are aimed at rehabilitating, reclaiming and restoring the ecological integrity of Nairobi river.

Muchina’s Work

This is with a vision of being able to transform the city’s rivers into clean and vibrant infrastructure.

Muchina will also be required to provide strategic oversight by formulating and supervising restoration programs while spearheading stakeholder coordination and aligning government institutions.

As part of the board he will also monitor adherence to environmental laws governing the river basin and develop enforceable codes of conduct.

Simultaneously he will drive public engagement, rise awareness, encourage community participation and facilitate sensitive discussions on riparian land use. He will also be tasked with resource mobilization.
