Ruto Sends Message to Team Kenya After Winning 12 Commonwealth Games Medals

President William Ruto has congratulated Team Kenya following its impressive performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The Glasgow Games ran from July 23 to August 2, bringing together athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories.
Although the Games featured only 10 sports, they remained one of the biggest international sporting events. Athletics was once again among the most competitive events.
In a message shared on Sunday, August 2, the President praised the athletes for making the country proud after finishing the competition with 12 medals. Kenya ended the Games in 12th place overall with three gold, four silver and five bronze medals.
“We are proud of Team Kenya for an outstanding performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. With an impressive haul of 12 medals – 3 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze – Kenya finished 12th overall, once again demonstrating our excellence on the global stage,” Ruto said.
The team secured:
- 3 gold medals
- 4 silver medals
- 5 bronze medals
Ruto praises Team Kenya Gold Medallists
The president gave special recognition to the three athletes who won gold medals for Kenya.
Edmund Serem – 3,000m steeplechase
Mathew Kipchumba Kipsang -5,000m
Faith Cherotich – 3,000m steeplechase
“We salute our gold medallists Edmund Serem (3,000m steeplechase), Mathew Kipchumba Kipsang (5,000m), and Faith Cherotich (3,000m steeplechase),” the President stated.

Silver and Bronze Winners Also Recognised
Ruto also celebrated the athletes who secured silver medals for the country.
- Stephen Ndangiri Kihu – 10,000m walk
- Simon Kiprop Koech – 3,000m steeplechase
- Diana Wanza – 10,000m
- Lilian Odira – 800m
He also applauded the five bronze medallists.
- Leonard Kipkemoi Bett -3,000m steeplechase
- Wyclife Kinyamal – 800m
- Timothy Cheruiyot – One Mile
- Irene Jepkemboi – Javelin
- Joshua Amunga Mboya – 60kg weightlifting
The President thanked the athletes for their determination and commitment, saying their achievements had inspired the nation.

The president thanked the entire team for making the country proud through their dedication and hard work.
