Suspected Mastermind of Matungu Bus Attack Arrested

Police have arrested Edward Oyayo, also known by the alias “Dust,” whom they accused of masterminding the violent school bus attack that left several students injured in Matungu, Kakamega County.
Officers report that they tracked Oyayo to Mayoni village following an intelligence-led operation.
Acting on the information, detectives moved in swiftly and apprehended him, bringing a key breakthrough in investigations into the incident.
Investigators link Oyayo to the Saturday, June 13, 2026, ambush that unfolded near Mayoni Bridge.
The attack targeted a bus belonging to Friends School Binyenya, which was transporting students back from a music festival held in Mumias.
As the bus made its way home, a group of attackers struck, throwing stones at the moving vehicle.
During the chaos, several students sustained injuries as panic spread among those on board.
According to the reports, authorities say the attackers appeared to target individuals linked to political gatherings, but instead hit the school bus, escalating public concern over the nature of the violence.

Matungu Incident Raises Alarm Over Civilian Safety
Authorities now suspect the attackers operated under political influence and used hired individuals to execute the assault.

Residents have also expressed concern over rising cases of politically linked violence, calling for stricter security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, police continue holding Oyayo at Matungu Police Station as investigations progress.
