Wandayi Reveals Cause of Fuel Supply Disruption, Says Situation Has Been Resolved

Share

Energy and Petroleum CS Opiyon Wandayi has announced that the temporary fuel supply challenges experienced in isolated filling stations were caused by a technical and administrative hitch affecting a few oil marketing companies.

In a statement on May 6, Wandayi said the issue has since been resolved, and coordination with industry stakeholders is ongoing to normalize fuel deliveries across the country.

“The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum wishes to inform the public that the temporary fuel supply challenges experienced in isolated filling stations in some parts of the country arose from a technical and administrative hitch. This curtailed the optimal uptake of petroleum products by a few oil marketing companies operating in the downstream of the supply chain,” Wandayi said.

He further confirmed that restocking is already underway in various stations and assured Kenyans that normal fuel supply will be restored nationwide by the end of the day.

“The matter has since been resolved, and the Ministry is working closely with industry stakeholders to normalize deliveries. Fuel restocking in various filling stations is underway, and normal supply across the country will be attained by the end of the day today,” he added.

Remaining Stock in Nairobi

On April 8, 2026, fuel station operators in Nairobi warned that their remaining stocks would only last a few days if supply was not stabilized.

Kenya’s fuel stocks are projected to last about 16 days for petrol and 19 days for diesel, raising concerns over sustained availability if global supply conditions do not improve.
