Maasai elders from Kitengela have issued a stern warning against planned protests on June 25, vowing to block individuals they claim are being transported from outside Kajiado County to incite violence and destroy property.

Speaking during a peace event held on the morning of June 20, 2026, the elders condemned what they described as a growing trend of demonstrations turning chaotic in parts of Kajiado, particularly in Kitengela and its neighbouring towns.

“And the Maasai community who are domiciled in Kajiado County, on the issues of demonstration which has taken a very bad side in destroying properties especially in Kitengela, Ongata Rongai, Ngong, Kiserian in Kajiado North, and Kitengela in Kajiado East,” the elders stated.

They further pointed to external actors driving the chaos.

“We strongly condemn the goons masquerading as peaceful demonstrators who are not from Kajiado. They are actually from other urban centres like Kayole, Mathare, and other parts of Nairobi like Kawangware, who are transported by their sponsors to come and destroy properties here in Kitengela, Ongata Rongai, and Ngong,” they said.

Kitengela Leaders Take Firm Stand Ahead of June 25

Following those concerns, the elders drew a firm line against destructive protests, stating that they are not going to allow destructive demonstrations.

“We are not going to allow those goons masquerading as peaceful demonstrators to step into Kitengela on the 25th of June this year, and any other place in Kajiado County. We are here as leaders and as people of Kajiado, strongly condemning the destructive demonstrations taking place in Kitengela. We are not going to accept,” they stated.

At the same time, they reaffirmed their support for lawful demonstrations and government efforts to maintain order.

“We support the government of the Republic of Kenya for a peaceful coexistence and peaceful demonstrations, not actually destructive demonstration in Kitengela,” they said.

Traders Vow to Defend Property

Meanwhile, local business owners escalated the tone and warned that they would act to protect their investments.

“Today, we have gathered here in Kitengela as residents and business owners of this area. We have been pushed to the wall by the destruction of our property caused by people brought in from various places,” Godfrey Olenghabaiya, the chairman of the Maa Unit Agenda, Kajiado Chapter stated.

He added that traders have already identified individuals they believe are behind the disruptions.

“Yesterday, we heard that there were business owners here in Kitengela who named and pointed out the politicians using people to disrupt Kitengela and destroy property,” he said.

In addition, business owners said they will remain alert as June 25 approaches.

“We are going to protect our business. We are going to protect our shops. We will stay completely alert; none of our property will be destroyed. If the government is ready to help us, well and good, but if they aren’t, we are ready to protect our property ourselves,” he said.

They further warned against attempted disruptions in the area.

“Come on the 25th, and you will find us right here. We have agreed that our property can no longer be destroyed in Kitengela. Millions of money have been lost, thousands of money have been lost. Our vehicles are being smashed all the time; by God, try coming on the 25th and you will find us waiting,” Godfrey Olenghabaiya added.

Despite the strong warnings, the elders emphasized that demonstrations must remain lawful and peaceful.
