Governor, Former IEBC CEO, and Amos Kimunya Among Graft Suspects in Court This Week

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is stepping this week and will hear cases involving West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin, former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official George Kipyatich Kibor, and former Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya

EACC will charge Kachapin with conspiracy to commit an offense, fraudulent acquisition of public property, and violation of procurement laws for the illegal withdrawal of Ksh 5.3 million from West Pokot county funds.

Kibor will answer to charges of forging an academic degree to climb the IEBC ladder and uttering a false document.

Kimunya and his co-accused await a ruling in an abuse of office case where they allegedly disposed of irregularly 25 acres of land at Njabini Farmers Training center.

IEBC Officials Face Procurement Charges

Former IEBC CEO Humphrey Obanda Oswago will answer to charges of willfully failing to adhere to procurement procedures in the purchase of ballot papers.

Investigators reportedly link the bribery to the IEBC and the former Independent Electoral Commission.

Former Kenya National Bureau of Statistics Director General Antony Kyalo Kilele is linked with a case on irregular payment and award of contract to a fake company, while a case to recover public land in Kiambu and Nairobi County, where illegal acquisition of public housing occurred in Woodley Estate.

Kenya School of Law, Nairobi City Water, and National Museums of Kenya Ghost Worker Schemes

Other cases will include hearings on unexplained wealth, fraud, and embezzlement.

Prosecutions in this segment include those of individuals linked to payments made in the Kenya School of Law, National Museums of Kenya ghost workers scheme, Nairobi City Water job fraud, and others that have occurred in many other counties.

The EACC will file plaints and mentions in cases against individuals involved in corruption schemes from the Kenya School of Law, Nairobi City Water, National Museums of Kenya ghost worker schemes, and others.

Courts across the nation will hear cases involving forged academic documents, including several instances of millions in tenders awarded fraudulently in county governments.

The EACC is actively pursuing cases to recover public assets and ensure officials are held accountable for pending matters in Milimani.
