Why a Top European Minister Is in Kenya With 35 Companies Chasing Big Deals

Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár Visits Kenya for Talks

The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, Juraj Blanar, arrived on Monday, June 8th, in Nairobi for a three-day official visit, which is scheduled to further cement the political, developmental and economic ties between Kenya and Slovakia.

Accompanying the Slovak Minister are officials from 35 Slovak companies and institutions who are set to visit Kenya and explore business, investment and trade opportunities.

“The delegation is also slated to participate in a Kenya-Slovakia Business Forum, which is intended to bring together government officials, private sector leaders and potential investors from both countries and discuss business collaboration, investment opportunities and technology transfer,” the State Department for Foreign Affairs stated.

Kenyan Bilateral Discussions and Development Project Evaluation

During the three-day visit, the Slovak Minister is scheduled to hold discussions with Kenyan top officials, among others, bilateral talks with Kenyan top government officials, where topics of discussion are expected to center on trade and investment, agriculture, innovation and technology, education, and sustainable development, where both governments hope to forge stronger collaboration and deepen cooperation.

The Slovak Minister is also scheduled to tour development projects funded by the Government of Slovakia, and the visits are aimed at providing a platform to evaluate impact and seek opportunities for increased cooperation.

“The development projects which have been identified by the government form part of Slovakia’s development co-operation program that benefits local communities and also contributes to Kenya’s development priorities,” the Ministry explained.

Juraj Blanár Diplomatic Engagements and Potential Deals

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Blanr was received by, among others;

  • The Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Rebecca Miano.
  • Mustafa Ibrahim, the Deputy Director-General and Head of Policy.
  • Research and Strategic Analysis.
  • Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.
  • Amb. Valerie Rugene, Deputy Head of Mission.
  • Kenya’s Embassy and Permanent Mission in Vienna.

 

The forum is taking place concurrently with separate closed-door discussions between the Minister and his Kenyan counterparts, with indications of possible further announcement of deals before the minister’s departure on Wednesday
