Kenya Railways has announced that it will run an additional Madaraka Express Passenger Service train from Monday, 8th December 2025, to Monday, 5th January 2026, to accommodate the increased passenger demand during the festive season.

In a statement on Monday, December 8, Kenya Railways said the extra train will operate on the Nairobi–Mombasa route with departures from Nairobi at 09:40 hrs and 13:40 hrs, arriving in Voi at 13:35 hrs and 15:35 hrs respectively.

The return trips from Mombasa will depart at 16:30 hrs and 18:20 hrs, arriving in Nairobi at 18:15 hrs and 22:55 hrs.

“Festive Travel Plans? Hop On — We Still Have Seats! Our additional Madaraka Express Passenger Service train—running from 8th Dec 2025 to 5th Jan 2026—still has seats available,” reads part of the notice.

Madaraka Express Passenger Service Train

Kenya Railways on Protecting Railway Lines

Kenya Railways has urged residents to protect railway lines, noting that vandalism endangers communities and disrupts operations.

The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity immediately via 0711 777 577.

“Protect the Railway. Protect Lives. Vandalism on railway tracks puts the movement of thousands of passengers and goods at risk. These acts endanger communities along the line, disrupt operations, and compromise public safety. If you see anything suspicious near the railway, report it immediately via 0711 777 577. Stay alert. Stay safe,” Kenya Railways said.
