The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has announced the regions expected to experience rainfall during the second week of January 2026.
In its forecast published on Monday, January 5, Kenya Met provided a detailed five-day outlook, highlighting the areas that are expected to receive rainfall during this period.
According to the forecast, the weather conditions across several parts of the country will mainly be sunny and dry.
However, occasional rainfall is anticipated in certain areas, particularly in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley itself, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the southeastern lowlands.
Additionally, KMD predicts strong southeasterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s), over Marsabit and Turkana counties.
In the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, mornings will generally have sunny intervals, while afternoons may see showers in some areas.
Nights are expected to be partly cloudy, with occasional showers anticipated during some nights, from Tuesday, December 6, to Wednesday, December 8.
Areas affected in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties.

In the counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and the inland parts of Tana River County in the southeastern lowlands, mornings are expected to have sunny intervals throughout the forecast period.
Afternoons will also experience sunny intervals from Wednesday, January 7 to Friday, January 9, except on Tuesday, January 6, when predominantly sunny conditions with showers in a few places across Mt. Kilimanjaro are anticipated, along with a chance of showers on Saturday, January 10, 2025. Nights will remain partly cloudy for the entire period.
In the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi and its surroundings, KMD expects mornings to predominantly have sunny intervals.
Afternoons are likely to be sunny, except on Saturday when a few places may experience showers, while nights will be partly cloudy.
Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.
In the northwestern region, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, the forecast predicts sunny intervals in the mornings and afternoons, with nights being partly cloudy.
In the northeastern region, sunny intervals are expected to dominate the mornings as well, along with afternoons, while nights will also be partly cloudy.

Areas within this region include Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties.
Elsewhere, in the Coast region, including counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal parts of Tana River, Kenya Met forecasts morning sunny intervals, except on Tuesday, January 6, when a few areas in Malindi and Lamu may receive showers.
Sunny intervals are expected in the afternoons, while nights will be partly cloudy.
