Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has revealed plans to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) to revolutionize Mombasa port security.

This comes after long time complaints about system delays, administrative errors that are costly and loopholes that makes actors exploited.

KRA said AI enable to curb excessive smuggling and tax evasion in the place which result to lose of billions of Kenyans shillings and lo revenue.

Manual inspection process has lasted for decades at East Africa’s largest seaport whereby it has been plagued by some shortfalls.

According to the latest statistics, the sheer volume of containers annually was superior to traditional methods.

When traditional methods were overwhelmed, lengthy cargo clearance was delayed, and this affected trade prosperity.

Manual systems were also easily manipulated in favor of one party, paving way for smugglers and tax cheats to galore due to false documentation with relative impunity.

After new technology dominating the world to easy some complex tasks, this new AI-driven system looks promising to improve port security and efficiency.

AI-driven can also detect things that are not required basing on instructions, hidden compartments that cannot be seen by human eye.

Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga has also stated that AI will help KRA seal loopholes that could be costing them each year. It will enhance taxpayers’ strategy that is to promote tax compliance and secure national boarders
