The Kenya Meteorological Department’s five-day outlook predicts mostly sunny and dry weather across much of the country, with occasional rain showers in some areas
The daily weather outlook prediction will run from Saturday, January 24, to Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
The national outlook has indicated that some regions in the country can expect to experience hot temperatures, with some parts expected to have a temperature of 38°C during the day.
The department notes that dry and sunny weather will dominate large swathes of the country, while rainfall will be confined to specific areas, mainly during afternoon and nighttime hours.
In its summary, KMD stated that, “Mainly sunny and dry conditions are expected over much of the country,” adding that rainfall will be “particularly experienced in a few areas, especially the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley region, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the south-eastern lowlands.”
The department has also cautioned residents in some regions to prepare for strong winds, noting that, “Strong northeasterly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected over northwestern, northeastern and the coastal areas.”
In the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the central Rift Valley, mornings and afternoons are expected to remain largely sunny.
However, from Monday, 26 onwards, the outlook indicates increased cloud cover with rainfall activity.
KMD forecasts “showers over a few places” during afternoons and nights, escalating to “rains over a few places” by Wednesday.
Maximum temperatures in these areas are likely to range between 31 degrees Celsius, compared to minimum temperatures that could range as low as 7 degrees in these areas, particularly in high-altitude areas.
Meanwhile, it is expected to be sunny in the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including the city of Nairobi and the surrounding areas.
The department notes that from Monday, 26, there will be cloudy weather breaking into sunny intervals, with showers over a few places expected in the afternoons.
Nighttime conditions are forecast to remain partly cloudy, with daytime highs around 29°C and minimum temperatures of about 5°C.

In northwestern counties such as Turkana and Samburu, the forecast indicates persistently sunny intervals throughout the day, with partly cloudy nights.
Temperatures in these areas are expected to peak at around 38°C, underscoring the continued heat stress likely to affect residents.
Similarly, northeastern counties, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will experience sunny conditions during the day and partly cloudy nights.
Maximum temperatures are forecast at approximately 38°C, with minimums around 16°C.
In the south-eastern lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and parts of Tana River County, mornings will be sunny, while afternoons may see a chance of showers over a few places, particularly near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
These areas will record maximum temperatures of about 38°C and minimums near 16°C.

Along the Coast, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the coastal parts of Tana River County, the weather is expected to remain stable.
KMD forecasts sunny intervals during mornings and afternoons, with partly cloudy nights throughout the period.
Daytime temperatures are projected at around 34°C, while nighttime lows will average 23°C.
The department has asked the public to use this information with daily updates from different counties, while noting that some differences are bound to be experienced on a daily basis.
KMD also noted that this information can be used as usual with its interpretative terms, where showers include rainfall experienced on a small fraction of a region, whereas “sunny intervals” mean sun experienced with some cloudy periods.
