‘State House Is Not UDA Headquarters’ Salasya Tells Ruto

Share

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has criticized President William Ruto for holding the ruling party’s events at the State House, claiming this diminishes the house’s standing.

Taking to his social media pages on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Salasya warned that the Presidency is overstepping its constitutional mandate by blurring the lines between national symbols and party interests.

He noted that the State House should be highly respected since it is a state-funded institution that is held in public trust and represents national unity.

” President William Ruto must be reminded firmly and without apology that State House is not a personal residence, and it is not a partisan political asset. It is a constitutional institution held in trust for the Republic, financed by public funds, protected by national security, and symbolically reserved for the service and unity of all Kenyans,” Salasya said in a post.

He added, “When the State House is routinely converted into a UDA political theatre, complete with party colours, partisan gatherings, and choreographed propaganda, it amounts to a gross abuse of office, a violation of the doctrine of public trust, and a deliberate collapse of the neutrality expected of the Presidency.”

State House Temporary Occupancy

The lawmaker reminded the President that his occupancy is temporary and governed by the doctrine of public trust, which requires the office to remain neutral and dignified regardless of the prevailing political climate.

He pointed out that President Ruto’s heedless takeover of state institutions has led to economic sabotage in the nation, where people are overtaxed, their means of subsistence are destroyed, and public suffering is viewed as collateral damage.

“The President does not own the State House. He merely occupies it temporarily, under the authority of the Constitution, and with a duty to exercise power in a manner that is lawful, impartial, and dignified,” Salasya stated.
