Kenya Met Names Regions Set for Rainfall as Mid-February Nears

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has listed areas expected to receive rainfall as mid-February approaches.

In a forecast published on Monday, February 9, 2026, Kenya Met highlighted the regions likely to experience rainfall over the seven days from February 10 to February 16.

According to the department, most parts of the country are expected to remain sunny and dry.

However, rainfall is likely to occur in some areas of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the South-eastern Lowlands.

Daytime (maximum) average temperatures of above 30°C are expected in several parts of the country, including the Coast, the South-eastern Lowlands, and North-eastern and North-western Kenya.

Night-time (minimum) average temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Kenya Met Names Areas that Are Likely to Experience Rainfall in a 7 Day Weather Forecast

Kenya Met predicts that in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, morning rains are likely to occur in a few places.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few locations during the first half of the forecast period, increasing to several places thereafter. Night showers are also likely in a few areas.

Counties within these regions include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok.

In North-western Kenya, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night.

For the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its environs, sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night.

However, there is a possibility of afternoon and night showers occurring in a few places during the second half of the forecast period.

Other counties within this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi.

Weather Forecast for North-eastern Region

In North-eastern Kenya, covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night.

Elsewhere, in the South-eastern Lowlands, comprising Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night.

However, there is a possibility of morning rains and night showers occurring in a few places in Kajiado County during the second half of the forecast period.

In the Coast region, which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as the Tana Delta, Kenya Met forecasts sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy conditions at night.
