The tragic death of 28-year-old Vincent Ayomo in Kitengela has sparked outrage and calls for accountability over state-sponsored political violence and police brutality.

In a press statement issued on Monday, February 16, Edwin Sifuna revealed the death of Vincent Ayomo.

Edwin Sifuna condemned the violent actions of police and hired goons during a peaceful gathering in Kitengela on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

“The Police and state hired goons have, by their violent attacks, killed an innocent Kenyan, namely Vincent Ayomo, gravely injured many others and vandalised the public address system set up for the Kitengela meeting,” the statement read.

Vincent Ayomo, a young man working at a local garage, was described as having committed no crime and provoked no one.

Edwin Sifuna questioned the reasoning behind his killing: “Why did the police kill him? Because this administration does not value the lives of Kenyans.”

Leaders Hold Top Officials Responsible

In the statement, Sifuna placed responsibility on President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing them of failing to protect citizens’ constitutional rights.

“President William Ruto and CS Kipchumba Murkomen bear direct personal responsibility for the violence… and for the unfortunate death of Vincent Ayomo,” the statement said.

Sifuna claimed the government had chosen to respond to political dissent with force instead of dialogue, adding that such actions would not deter Kenyans from exercising their rights.

“Kenyans will not surrender and live on their knees. Instead, they will defend their rights and use their votes to effect change through the ballot,” he said.

Condolences and Call for Justice

Sifuna expressed condolences to Ayomo’s family and pledged to pursue justice on their behalf.

“We express our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and friends of Vincent Ayomo,” the statement read.

“We will pursue justice for his family and ensure that those responsible for his death are held accountable.”

He also wished those injured during the incident a speedy recovery and urged Kenyans to remain peaceful but steadfast in demanding accountability.

The statement was jointly signed by several leaders, including HE James Orengo, Hon. Godfrey Osotsi and Hon. Babu Owino, among others.

The incident has intensified debate over police conduct and political freedoms in the country, with calls mounting for investigations into the events in Kitengela.
