Detectives have arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction and murder of a nine-year-old boy in Kajai village, Githunguri Sub-County, Kiambu County, in a case that has shocked residents.
In a statement on April 15, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects, identified as James Ngigi Ngendo, 32, and James Mburi Chichu, 75, were arrested following a swift investigation.
They were arraigned in court, where police obtained 10-day custodial orders to allow detectives to continue with investigations.
Authorities say the case began after the victim’s mother reported her child missing under suspicious circumstances.
According to investigators, the child’s mother had left her son at home under the care of his grandmother and sister while she attended a family gathering in Kipipiri.
Shortly after her departure, the grandmother received a phone call from an individual later identified as James Ngigi Ngendo, who claimed to have abducted the boy and demanded a ransom of Ksh 150,000.
Police immediately launched investigations to trace the suspect and locate the missing child.
A statement from detectives indicated that the incident triggered a coordinated response to track down those responsible.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering justice for victims of heinous crimes, especially offences targeting children,” the investigators said.

Detectives traced and arrested the first suspect at his hideout in the Gitothua area of Ruiru Sub-County.
Following his arrest, the suspect reportedly led officers to the second suspect in the Kigio area of Githunguri Sub-County, leading to his capture.
With both suspects in custody, detectives intensified the search for the missing boy using information obtained during interrogations.
Acting on leads from the suspects, officers searched the premises where the first suspect had been living before the incident.
During the search, detectives discovered the body concealed in a manila bag and hidden beneath clothing materials on the rooftop.
Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene before moving the body to Mukoe Funeral Home, where it awaits a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
