Share

FIFA has formally written to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) seeking urgent clarification over the decision to force FKF President Hussein Rashid Mohammed and two other officials to step aside, amid an escalating leadership dispute and allegations surrounding a Ksh 42 million scandal.

In a letter dated April 26, 2026, FIFA said it is working closely with the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) to assess whether due process was followed in the controversial move.

In the letter addressed to FKF National Executive Committee members, FIFA confirmed that it had been notified about a resolution allegedly passed on or around April 24, 2026.

The resolution required FKF President Hussein Rashid Mohammed, National Executive Committee member Abdullahi Yusuf Ibrahim, and Acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru to temporarily step aside from their roles.

“It has come to our attention that, on or around  April 24 2026, the National Executive Committee of the Football Kenya Federation adopted a resolution pursuant to which the FKF President and other officials were required to step aside from their respective functions on a provisional basis,” FIFA stated.

FIFA said the matter is being taken seriously and is currently under joint review with CAF to establish whether the actions taken complied with FKF statutes.

FIFA and CAF Launch Joint Assessment

According to the letter signed by FIFA Chief Member Associations Officer Elkhan Mammadov, both FIFA and CAF are examining the circumstances surrounding the decision and the legal procedures followed.

FKF Asked to Submit Key Documents

FIFA has requested detailed documentation from FKF to verify whether the meeting that resulted in the decision was conducted lawfully.

  • Records showing how the April 24 meeting was convened
  • Notices issued to members and proof of circulation
  • The official meeting agenda

FIFA emphasized the need to confirm whether quorum requirements were met and whether affected officials were granted their statutory right to be heard.

“This includes clarification as to how the meeting at which the Resolution was allegedly adopted was convened, whether the applicable quorum and voting requirements were met, and whether the affected officials were duly granted their statutory right to be heard,” the letter stated.

Deadline Set for Submission of Information

FIFA has given FKF a strict deadline to provide all requested materials to allow a timely review of the situation.

“We would be grateful to receive the above-mentioned documents and information by  May 1 2026, in order to enable FIFA and CAF to complete their assessment of the situation in a timely manner,” the letter added.
