Kenya Met Lists Regions to Experience Rainfall This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department has cautioned of chances of showers and thunderstorms across sections of the Highlands and Coast regions.
This comes as it issued its five-day forecast for 23rd-27th May 2026.
On its part, the five-day forecast issued on 22nd, shows it will rain in a few parts of the East Highlands, West Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley and Coast regions.
For the remaining parts of the country, it will be hot and dry.
“Rainfall is expected in a few areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and the Coast,” the department said in its summary.

Regional Weather Forecasts
In Highlands West of the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria Basin, mornings will be dry with sunny intervals and afternoons will be showers and thunderstorms in a few places on most days and the night will be showers and partly cloudy.
Maximum temperature will be between 28°C and 30°C, while minimum temperatures will be between 11C-13C; however,
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, morning will be cloudy, and later will have sunny intervals.
Afternoon will be mostly sunny with a probability of showers in a few places on some days and nights will be showery over a few places.
Maximum temperature will be between 27 °C and 29 °C, while the minimum temperature will be between 9°C and 12 °C.
For the Coast, the weather will remain unpredictable. Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and parts of Tana River region should expect showers over a few places on 23rd to 26th May, with slightly reduced chances on 27th May.
Maximum temperatures are expected to be between 31°C-32°C while minimum temperatures are expected to be between 23 °C and 24 °C.

Dry and Hot Regions Forecast
Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will remain sunny with partially cloudy nights, maximum temperature will be 36 °C- 39 °C, while minimum will be between 17 °C- 18 °C.
Kenyans were advised to use the forecast together with their daily 24-hour updates for adequate planning of activities.
“South-eastern lowlands will remain dry with sunny intervals and partially cloudy nights as the expected temperatures range between 31-33 °C for Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta,” read the report.
Citizens residing in areas mentioned are expected to brace for wet afternoons and cool nights as the weekend progresses.
