Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has held consultations with businessman and politician Jimmy Wanjigi at his Wamunyoro residence as he seeks to build political alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The meeting comes during Gachagua’s self-declared 45-day break from active politics, a period he said he would use to consult widely before issuing political direction to the Mt Kenya region.
Gachagua revealed that Wanjigi visited him at his Wamunyoro residence, where they exchanged views on national leadership, governance, and what he described as the liberation of Kenya.
The Democratic Congress Party (DCP) leader said the discussions were part of efforts to gather opinions from different Kenyans as the country prepares for what he termed the formation of the “6th Administration.”
“Pleased to have held consultations with businessman Jimi Wanjigi, who called on me at the Wamunyoro residence,” Gachagua said.
“The liberation cause of our country and the formation of the 6th administration are so critical that we must get views from all,” he added.
Gachagua further stated that Wanjigi’s experience in political strategy and government formation had provided valuable insights as consultations continue.
“I have greatly benefited from his insights and experience in the formation of governments. Consultations continue. God Bless Kenya,” Gachagua said.
Wanjigi, who currently leads the Safina Party, has previously positioned himself as a presidential contender and an advocate for what he calls economic liberation.

Responding to the meeting, Wanjigi said Kenya’s transformation requires leaders to prioritise national interests above political divisions.

“Great catching up with my brother Rigathi in his Wamunyoro residence. We must ensure Kenya becomes a sovereign state and economically liberated. It is good for kinsmen to gather. There is hope for Kenya,” Wanjigi said.
“The liberation of Kenya demands that we all discuss ideas that put Kenya first,” he added.
Wanjigi has built a political profile around calls for economic reforms, reduced dependency, and greater control of national resources.
He took over leadership of the Safina Party as part of efforts to revive the party’s influence ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Safina Party, founded in the 1990s by conservationist Richard Leakey and lawyer Paul Muite, has historically promoted social democracy and equal opportunities.
Presidential Aspirations and Political Career of Wanjigi
Being an entrepreneur and strategist, Wanjigi has for a long time taken part in politics in Kenya and even participated in political campaigns in a covert way before expressing his ambitions of becoming president.

According to reports, in 2021, Wanjigi expressed his aspirations of being nominated to the presidency through ODM in preparation for the 2022 election cycle, but he could not get his name in the presidential line-up due to some problems.
There are claims that there were obstacles to his presidential bid in 2022 since he was disqualified on grounds of qualifications such as education and signature acquisition.
Wanjigi continued pursuing his dream of becoming president after taking up the leadership of Safina Party by positioning himself as a presidential aspirant who will restructure the economy and institutions.
This interaction between Wanjigi and Gachagua is happening amid rising consultations by various political leaders ahead of the 2027 presidential election campaign.
