“He Was a Proper Goon”: Boniface Mwangi Opens Up About Man Allegedly Shot by PS Fikirini’s Bodyguard

Activist Boniface Mwangi has broken his silence on his past encounters with the late Cecil Otieno, who was fatally shot on the evening of June 30, 2026, offering a candid account of their relationship while condemning the circumstances surrounding his death.
While speaking in church, Mwangi addressed both justice and accountability in the wake of Otieno’s killing, setting the tone for a message that blended criticism with caution.
“No one should be killed like a stray dog. Cecil Otieno deserves justice but we must also condemn goonism,” he said.
At the same time, Mwangi described Otieno as a well-known figure within Nairobi’s political scene, alleging that he frequently disrupted meetings and demanded payment from politicians and event organizers.
According to Boniface Mwangi, Otieno built a reputation around such activities, which made him a controversial but familiar presence in political gatherings across the city.
“He was a proper goon. You couldn’t hold a meeting in Nairobi without paying him,” Mwangi said.
He added that Otieno attended and disrupted several of his meetings, often forcing organizers to negotiate or pay to maintain order. In fact, Boniface Mwangi said these repeated disruptions reflected a broader pattern of organized interference in political events across Nairobi.

Boniface Mwangi Encounters and Tension
To begin with, Mwangi revealed that Otieno troubled him on multiple occasions, frequently demanding money in exchange for allowing meetings to proceed without disruption.
As a result, the encounters created tension and forced him to address the issue directly.
During one of their last interactions at the Ukweli Party National Delegates Conference (NDC), Mwangi confronted Otieno and made his position clear.
“I told him, ‘Cecil, I don’t owe you anything. Let us not trouble each other, so be patient,’” he recounted.
Even so, Mwangi admitted that he eventually reached a temporary understanding with Otieno to avoid further disruptions during his events, highlighting the difficult environment many organizers continue to face.
Allegations Surrounding His Death
Meanwhile, Mwangi went on to make serious allegations about the events leading to Otieno’s death. He claimed that Otieno had mobilized youth for a meeting involving the Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs, Fikirini.
Shortly after the meeting ended, a disagreement arose when Otieno demanded payment for the group he had mobilized.
“They disagreed, and Fikirini’s bodyguards killed Cecil, and that is the truth,” Mwangi alleged.

A Warning to the Youth
Beyond the allegations, Mwangi used the moment to issue a strong warning to young people involved in politically driven disruptions, stressing that politicians often treat them as expendable tools.
“Every time you are hired by a politician to disrupt a meeting, you are dispensable. If they don’t want to pay you or if you are of no use to them, they kill you,” he said.
In addition, Mwangi referenced a recent incident where Otieno faced charges at Makadara Law Courts, arguing that such cases reflect a pattern of exploitation and criminalization of individuals engaged in these roles.
For this reason, Mwangi urged young people to reject being used for political chaos and instead pursue structured and dignified employment opportunities.
“If someone gives you a security job, let it be proper. Give you a badge, a respectable job. Being hired to cause chaos, you will just die,” he warned.
Call for Justice
Ultimately, while Mwangi criticized Otieno’s alleged activities, he maintained that authorities must thoroughly investigate the killing and hold those responsible accountable.
In conclusion, he urged youth to avoid political manipulation, warning that choosing sides in such arrangements could expose them to serious danger and even cost them their lives.
