The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed fresh details surrounding the death of Kenya Forest Service (KFS) Legal Services Manager Esther Wairimu Keige, adding that homicide has not been ruled out.

In a statement dated July 9, the detectives said her body was recovered at a coffee plantation in Juja, Kiambu County, following weeks of extensive investigations after she was reported missing on June 10.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is investigating the death of Ms. Esther Wairimu Keige, the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) Legal Services Manager, whose body was recovered at a coffee plantation within Juja, Kiambu County, following weeks of intensive search efforts,” read part of the statement.

DCI stated that Esther Keige was last seen after her driver dropped her at the Shell petrol station in Juja, adjacent to the Senate Hotel, where she had reportedly gone to inquire about gym services.

The agency noted that investigations established that Keige had been battling depression and was receiving treatment.

Detectives also found that she had previously disappeared from home on three separate occasions before eventually returning safely.

In addition, police maintained that all investigative avenues remain open as they work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding her death.

According to the DCI, a post-mortem examination found no external injuries suggestive of assault.

However, pathologists were unable to determine the cause of death because the body was in an advanced state of decomposition.

Investigators have since collected samples for toxicological and other forensic examinations, whose findings are expected to help determine both the cause and manner of death.

Appeal for Information to Ease Investigation

The DCI  has appealed to members of the public who may have information regarding Keige’s movements between June 10 and the recovery of her body to report to the nearest police station or contact the agency through its toll-free hotline or WhatsApp number.

“Members of the public who may have information regarding Ms. Keige’s movements between 10th June 2026 and the recovery of her body, or any other information that may assist the investigation, are urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Directorate of Criminal Investigations through its toll-free hotline 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000,” DCI stated.
