Kenya Met Predicts Dry Weather in Most Parts of the Country with Rainfall in Selected Counties

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) predicts dry weather in most parts of the country between July 21 and July 27, 2026, even as rainfall continues in selected counties.

According to the weekly forecast released on July 20, 2026, Kenya Met says the outlook reflects contrasting conditions across regions, with large areas remaining sunny while others receive intermittent showers.

To begin with, Kenya Met indicates that much of the country will experience generally dry conditions.

These conditions will support transport, farming activities such as harvesting, and outdoor events. However, Kenya Met notes that parts of western Kenya and the Rift Valley will receive rainfall during the forecast period.

In these regions, the department forecasts light to moderate rainfall in counties such as Kakamega, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kericho, Kisii and Nyamira.

As the week progresses, some areas are expected to record heavier showers, especially in the afternoons and evenings.

Kenya Met predicts cool and cloudy conditions in Central Kenya

Meanwhile, the department says central Kenya and the highlands east of the Rift Valley will experience cool and cloudy conditions, with occasional light rains.

The department forecasts lower temperatures in Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Meru and Nyandarua, particularly in the mornings and at night.

At the same time, northern, north-eastern and coastal regions will experience high daytime temperatures.

Counties such as Turkana, Marsabit, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Kilifi and Lamu will record temperatures exceeding 30°C.

As a result, the department urges residents in these areas to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Cold Nights Expected in Several Regions

In addition, the department warns that night-time temperatures will drop significantly in parts of the Rift Valley and central highlands.

Areas such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru and Narok will experience cold nights, with temperatures falling below 10°C.

Because of this, Kenya Met advises families to keep warm, especially protecting children and the elderly.
