Bunge La Mwananchi in Shock as Nuru Okanga Reveals Why He Is ‘Leaving’ Team Linda Mwananchi

Political activist Nuru Okanga has announced that he is stepping away from Team Linda Mwananchi, accusing some of the movement’s leaders of sidelining grassroots mobilisers and failing to respect leaders from Western Kenya.
The political activist made the remarks during a session of Bunge La Mwananchi, where he expressed frustration over events that followed the Team Linda Mwananchi rallies held in Bungoma on July 25 and 26.
Speaking during his address, he claimed that ordinary supporters bear the biggest risks whenever they attend political rallies, while senior leaders travel comfortably.
He said those at the grassroots often use motorcycles to reach rally venues and are exposed to tear gas whenever police disperse crowds.
“They travel in TX vehicles. When tear gas is fired, they simply close their windows and drive away. I am left riding my motorcycle, and the tear gas burns my eyes,” Okanga said.
He added that despite playing a key role in mobilising supporters, grassroots activists rarely receive recognition.
Nuru Okanga Criticises Edwin Sifuna over Bungoma Rally
Okanga also criticised Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over the Bungoma rallies, saying he failed to recognise leaders from Western Kenya.
According to him, Sifuna introduced political figures such as Pauline Njoroge and Genzi Baddie but did not give enough attention to leaders from the host region.
“I want Sifuna to respect the leaders from Western Kenya. You went to the rally but failed to introduce the leaders from the region because you were busy introducing Genzi Baddie and Pauline Njoroge,” he said.
He further argued that Pauline Njoroge, who comes from the Mount Kenya region, should allow Western Kenya leaders to take the lead during rallies held in the region.
Claims Bunge La Mwananchi Started the Movement
Okanga said Bunge La Mwananchi members were among the first people to push the Linda Mwananchi movement.
He claimed the group has consistently mobilised supporters without expecting payment.
“This movement started here through Bunge La Mwananchi. When we arrive, people should know that Bunge La Mwananchi has come in full force. This is not a joke,” he said.
He also recalled a past incident in Busia where he claimed he narrowly escaped an attack while supporting the movement.

He Warns Sifuna Against Political Arrogance
Okanga urged Sifuna to remain humble and avoid surrounding himself with people he described as cartels.
He warned that political success depends on working with different leaders and supporters.
“Don’t become too arrogant, and don’t allow cartels around you because they will destroy your name. You also cannot do politics alone,” he said.
Okanga added that Sifuna should consult leaders from Western Kenya more often and clearly state his own political ambitions instead of allowing others to speculate.
“It is high time Sifuna came out and told Kenyans what he wants.”
