Tuju’s Karen Property Auction Called Off After No Bidders Show Up

The planned auction of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju’s property in Karen, Nairobi, was called off on Tuesday after no qualified bidders turned up.

According to reports, the property had been listed for public auction by Garam Auctioneers on August 25, 2026, amid an ongoing dispute involving Tuju’s company, Dari Limited, and the East African Development Bank (EADB).

Tuju’s property had been scheduled for 11 am, but the process was called off after those who attended failed to meet the requirements to participate.

No Bidders Turn Up for Tuju’s Karen Property Auction

According to Garam Auctioneers, prospective bidders were required to provide a deposit to demonstrate their seriousness before they could take part in the sale.

“The auction didn’t take place because none of the people who attended were qualified to be there. You should have a deposit to demonstrate your seriousness,” said one of Garam’s auctioneers.

With no qualified bidder available, the scheduled auction did not proceed. The development was witnessed at the premises where Tuju appeared as the planned sale of the property attracted attention.

Tuju has previously challenged the proposed sale of the property, maintaining that the dispute is still before the courts.

He said Dari Limited and EADB remain involved in several legal proceedings relating to the property and questioned the decision to proceed with the auction while the cases were pending.

The former Cabinet Secretary cited Supreme Court case SCPT/E012/2023, Dari Limited versus East African Development Bank, as one of the cases connected to the dispute.

Dispute Over Ksh50 Million Security Deposit

Tuju also disputed claims that Dari Limited had failed to comply with court orders requiring the company to deposit Ksh50 million as security in the loan dispute.

He maintained that the money had been deposited on June 5, 2026.

“The deposit was made on 5th June 2026. A copy of bank statements is attached, and the bank or our lawyers may be contacted directly, as they are signatories to the account,” he said.

The dispute between Dari Limited and EADB centers on a loan and the enforcement of security connected to the debt.

Tuju’s failed auction comes after a series of court battles involving his properties in Karen.

In a ruling delivered in May, the High Court declined to overturn the completed auction of the multi-billion-shilling Dari Business Park in Karen.

Justice Moses Ado held that the court could not reverse the transfer because the property had already been sold and transferred to a third-party purchaser nearly two years earlier.

However, the judge temporarily shielded Entim Sidai Wellness Sanctuary from enforcement of EADB’s statutory power of sale, which would allow the lender to auction the property to recover the outstanding debt.
