KNCHR Announces CEO Vacancy: How to Apply

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has announced a vacancy for the position of Commission Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, offering a five-year contract that is renewable once.

In a notice dated August 27, KNCHR stated that the position is based in Nairobi, with occasional travel required.

The commission added that the successful candidate will report to the Chairperson of KNCHR, while the salary and benefits will be determined in accordance with the provisions of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

KNCHR Commission Secretary & CEO Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualifications set out under Section 21 of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights Act.

Candidates must be Kenyan citizens, hold a degree from a university recognised in Kenya, have at least 10 years of proven management-level experience, and meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

In addition, applicants should possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field and demonstrate experience in areas relevant to the Commission’s work.

KNCHR further stated that candidates should have demonstrable experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Human rights
  • Governance
  • Public administration
  • Management
  • Finance
  • Political science
  • Related fields

Applicants are also required to have at least five years of experience at senior management level, preferably in a public institution or a comparable organisation.

The commission requires candidates to have completed a senior leadership course lasting at least six weeks from a recognised institution.

Applications must be submitted online through the KNCHR Recruitment Portal for the vacancy referenced “COMMISSION SECRETARY/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER” before Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

KNCHR stated that it should be addressed to the Chairperson, Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
