“I’m Ready to Deputise Sifuna” Gachagua Signals 2027 Election Twist

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed a willingness to hold the deputy position of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, in remarks that are bound to stoke rumors over possible realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.

While speaking during a political engagement in US on September 6, Gachagua remarked that Sifuna’s position is conditional on the nature of his party and added he would respect their decision if it reflected what voters want.

“If we do our arithmetic and we find Sifuna will take this person home. So be it. And there is no problem,” Gachagua said.

He even went to the extent of saying that he could as well be a deputy to Sifuna, thus indicating his readiness for cooperation with despite non-existent political backgrounds.

“Even I, Rigathi, I can deputise Sifuna. So we are safe,” said Gachagua.

The former Deputy President made the remarks while condemning some politicians for misdirected priorities, stating that instead of talking about him, leaders should be focusing on issues addressing the country.

Gachagua questioned how Kenya could avoid what he described as a “ditch” when political leaders were allegedly preoccupied with issues that did not address the country’s challenges.

“How would the country not be in a ditch? Do I need to explain to you why the country is in a ditch?” he asked.

Gachagua’s Criticism of Sudi and Farouk

He also attacked Oscar Sudi and Farouk, saying they have moved from serving President William Ruto and paying attention to solving the problems of the country to tracking his steps.

“They are not even thinking of how to help Ruto sort the mess in the country. They are thinking about where I am,” Gachagua said.

Sifuna’s Political Realignment

Edwin Sifuna, who is currently serving as Nairobi Senator and a prominent opposition politician, has been at the center of political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Earlier, he was removed as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General in 2026, with the Registrar of Political Parties later recognizing the change.

He has since positioned himself through the Linda Mwananchi movement and signalled his intention to pursue the presidency in 2027, while working on a new political vehicle to support his State House bid.
