Drama as ‘Sharp Boy’ Leaves Two Women Stranded in Uber Over Ksh 1,690 Fare

Two women were allegedly left stranded in an Uber in Zimmerman after a man they identified as their male friend and host failed to send money to settle their Ksh1,690 fare from Mlolongo.

According to a video circulating online, the incident reportedly occurred at around 12 a.m in which the women shared their ordeal, saying they had been promised that the fare would be refunded after they arrived at their destination.

One of the women said the man is the boyfriend of the other friend, and he had suggested that they take an Uber from Mlolongo to Zimmerman, assuring them that he would send them money once they arrived.

However, upon reaching Zimmerman, the women said the promised payment did not come through.

Woman Says Host Became Unreachable Upon Reaching Zimmerman

They claimed the Uber fare amounted to Ksh1,690 and that they did not have money to settle it, and the driver locked them inside the cab.

“We were from Mlolongo to Zima. We have arrived in Zima,” one of the women said while documenting the situation.

The woman claimed they tried contacting the man after arriving but struggled to resolve the issue. The lady said they had contacted several numbers in an attempt to get assistance, but they remained unable to settle the fare.

The woman also questioned what they were supposed to do after being unable to leave the vehicle without paying the fare, as she appealed to people watching the video for advice on who would pay the Ksh1,690 fare.

At one point, she said she was recording the incident to document what had happened.

The women also appeared to suggest that they were prepared to explain the circumstances to authorities if the matter escalated.

“And personally, we don’t have the money. I’m going to tell him who made the mistake. And now, Uber has us trapped. We’re still in his car. We’re still in the car. He’s just standing there.” 

Kenyans React to the Video of the Women Asking for Help

Meanwhile, the video sparked mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans questioning why the women had taken the Uber without having money to cover the fare in case the promised payment failed to come through.

Others focused on the circumstances surrounding the man who allegedly promised to refund the fare.

X user Willy Gititi questioned the circumstances that led to the two women being invited, asking why they decided to come together yet the man had an affair with only one of them.

Another Kenyan, Daima Mkenya, expressed concern about why the women could not raise the fare among themselves to help settle the bill after the man failed to honour his promise.

Some criticised the women for relying entirely on the promised payment and then recording the incident after the payment failed to materialise.

“Hii town hakuna watu hukua wamesota na entitled kama madem. As a man, huwezi niambia nifanye kitu siezi afford kama hauko hapo, hta club ukinibuyia pombe I make sure I can pay for the bill ukiblack out ushindwe kulipa. Women are risk takers, uko kwa Uber na huna hta thao.”

Another user, Kunte Kinte, criticised the decision to record the situation instead of first looking for a way to settle the fare.

“Badala atafute vile atalipa anaanza kujirecord akiuliza makosa ni ya nani? Enyewe ndo maana simu zinazimwa.”
