Geoffrey Mosiria Responds to Oga Obinna’s Ksh10M Lawsuit

Geoffrey Mosiria has responded to a Ksh10 million demand issued by lawyers representing media personality Oga Obinna over alleged defamatory statements made on social media.

Speaking during an interview on Saturday, September 26, Mosiria said he was not aware of the demand and denied knowing the Oga Obinna referred to in the legal letter.

Mosiria instead said the Obinna he knows is a Nigerian media personality whom he claimed to have helped after he began struggling with addiction and other personal challenges.

He said he had only heard about the legal demand during the interview and had not seen the letter or the claims against him.

“Personally, I’m hearing about that. I’ve not seen anything about that,” Mosiria said.

He maintained that Oga Obinna was his friend and brother, but clarified that he was referring to a Nigerian man named Obinna Ekene.

“There is an Obina from Nigeria who is my good friend and he has been battling depression. I took him to rehab,” Mosiria said.

According to him, the Nigerian media personality previously lived in Kilimani and worked in the media before he began experiencing difficulties that affected his life and career.

He claimed that Obinna Ekene lost his livelihood and other aspects of his life after struggling with addiction.

“He was doing interviews before he became depressed. Addiction knocked him. He lost his girlfriend, everything and he is really suffering,” Mosiria said.

Mosiria Questions Name in Demand Letter

Mosiria also questioned the identity of the person named in the demand letter, saying he did not know anyone called Steve Thompson Magana.

“But the letter says it’s Steve Thompson Magana. Yeah, I don’t know because what you’re talking about I don’t know about it,” he said.

When asked whether he knew Steve Thompson Magana, Mosiria responded, “I’ve never heard of that. I’m hearing it for the first time from you.”

He also said he did not want to comment on matters he claimed not to understand.

“I’ll not address what I don’t know because I don’t know, because I don’t want to know and I will never know,” Mosiria said.

Mosiria further maintained that his references to Oga Obinna in his content were about the Nigerian man he said he had assisted.

“My content on Oga Obina is the Oga Obina. I normally use the short term Oga Obina,” he said.

He claimed that he had mentioned the Nigerian Obinna on several of his social media platforms while discussing his situation.

Obinna’s Lawyers Demand Ksh10 Million

Mosiria’s remarks came a day after Obinna shared a post saying the seven-day deadline given to Mosiria to respond to a demand letter had expired.

In the letter, Obinna’s lawyers accused Mosiria of making defamatory allegations about their client on TikTok and other social media platforms.

The lawyers demanded that Mosiria stop publishing, repeating, sharing or reposting the alleged defamatory statements.

They also demanded a public apology and retraction with similar prominence and reach to the alleged publications.

The lawyers specifically disputed allegations linking Obinna to accidents, deaths, suicide, addiction, humiliation, loss of fortune, loss of popularity and the destruction of the careers of people who appeared on his programmes.

Lawyers Demand Apology and Removal of Content

The legal team also demanded that Mosiria remove copies, clips, extracts, reposts and reproductions of the alleged defamatory content from his TikTok account and other social media platforms under his control.

They gave him seven days to comply with the demands, warning that failure to do so would result in legal proceedings.

The lawyers also demanded Ksh10 million in damages, citing alleged reputational injury, distress, embarrassment and damage to Obinna’s standing and goodwill.

Obinna later addressed the matter on Instagram, saying the seven-day period had elapsed.

“Ni Ushugu sanaaaa!! Nayo nayo. Hata sitaki mingi just 10M. Siku Saba zili-isha, we proceed,” Obinna wrote.

He also said the dispute could help people understand what defamation means and the financial consequences that can arise from such claims.
