Mosiria Hits Back at Obinna TV With Ksh20 Million Demand Over Alleged Defamation

Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has demanded Ksh20 million from Obinna TV over alleged defamatory remarks made about him on the platform and other social media channels.

Through his lawyers, Sichangi & Otieno Advocates, Mosiria also demanded that the publications be removed, along with a public apology and a retraction, within seven days.

“We act for Mr. Geoffrey Mosiria, the Chief officer Incharge of Public Participation, Citizens Engagement and Customer Service, County Government of Nairobi (hereinafter referred to as “our client”), on whose instructions we address you as hereunder, That,” read part of the demand letter.

Lawyers Demand Ksh20 Million Over Alleged Defamation

In a letter dated September 28,  the lawyers accused Steve Thompson Magana alias Obinna, who operates the Obinna TV Show, of making statements and jokes that allegedly demeaned their client.

The lawyers cited an episode streamed on September 10, featuring former politician Millicent Omanga, while noting that the complaint was not limited to that particular episode.

According to the lawyers, Mosiria had repeatedly been mentioned on the show in what they described as demeaning and defamatory jokes.

They also objected to remarks they said made claims about Mosiria’s gender and his sexual orientation.

As a result, the lawyers have given Obinna TV seven days from the date of the letter to comply with their demands.

They want the platform to remove the publications complained of from its YouTube channel and any other platforms under its control.

They have also demanded a written and public retraction and apology to Mosiria, with the lawyers stating that the apology should be published with prominence comparable to the original statements.

In addition, the lawyers are demanding Ksh20 million as compensation for what they allege was defamation and injury to Mosiria’s reputation.

The letter warns that failure to meet the demands within seven days will result in the lawyers receiving instructions to institute civil proceedings for defamation and pursue other remedies available under the law.

Mosiria Opens Up About Criticism Over His Work

Mosiria’s lawyers further alleged that the remarks had affected his family, including his children.

According to the demand letter, Mosiria’s children had allegedly been subjected to bullying and taunts at school based on claims arising from the jokes made about their father.

The lawyers said Mosiria had suffered damage to his reputation and mental health, while his family had also allegedly faced online harassment.

Meanwhile, the demand letter comes as Mosiria addressed the controversy in a post on X.

Mosiria said he had been called “mumama” because of his efforts to help women, children, widows, single mothers and vulnerable boys who seek his assistance.

“KAMA NI MAKOSA KUSAIDIA MUNGU NISAMEHE!” Mosiria wrote.

He said some people had contacted him while crying and asking for help, adding that he had sacrificed his sleep and personal comfort to assist them.

Mosiria also said being called “mumama” had affected him and that he was seeking prayers and support from Kenyans.

He further claimed that he had been subjected to mistreatment by some leaders who, he said, did not want to see him helping vulnerable people.

He questioned why efforts to work and assist others had seemingly made him a target.

“I didn’t know Kenya when you work hard you become an enemy of leaders,” he said in his post.
