Govt Lists 20 Companies for Proposed Coffee Export and Roasting Licences

The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has proposed granting coffee licences to 20 companies seeking to engage in coffee exports, imports, value addition, roasting, and packaging.

According to a gazette notice dated October 2, the proposed licences  published under the Crops Act, 2013 are set to allow members of the public to raise objections before the licences are issued.

Most of the applicants are based in Nairobi, with others listed in Kisii and other locations.

“NOTICE is given that pursuant to section 20 (6), (7) and (8) of the Crops Act, 2013, the Agriculture and Food Authority proposes to grant a licence to the following applicants,” read part of the gazette notice.

20 Companies Listed for Proposed Coffee Licences

According to the notice, the companies listed include:

  • Nairobi Golf Hotels Limited
  • Vicmar Merchants Limited
  • KG Mills Limited
  • Rift Valley Pride Limited
  • Berries Union Company Limited
  • Volq Coffee Limited
  • Cortado Investments Limited
  • VJ Pure Beans Limited
  • Frostline Logistics Limited
  • Premium Ethical Foods Limited
  • Primepath Commercial Services Limited
  • By Industries Company SEZ Limited
  • Wadia Agri Limited
  • Imani Coffee Limited
  • Sahara Beverage Limited
  • Bosana (Kenya) Limited
  • Dorfia Trading Limited
  • Jua Roast Limited
  • Sixty Five Degrees Coffee Roastery Limited

The Coffee board noted that the proposed licences for the 19 companies, excluding Elsway Investments Limited, cover coffee exports, imports and value addition, including roasting and packaging.

Elsway Investments Limited has applied for a licence to facilitate growers with Direct Sales.

Coffee Board Opens 14-Day Objection Window

Furthermore, the board has given members of the public 14 days from the date of the notice to submit objections to the proposed grant of the licences.

The objections should be submitted in writing to the Coffee Board of Kenya at Coffee Plaza Building, along Exchange Lane off Haile Selassie Avenue in Nairobi.

According to the notice, anyone objecting must provide their name, address and telephone number, clearly state the reasons for the objection and sign the submission.

“Any objections to the proposed grant of licence with respect to the applicant, should be lodged in writing with the Coffee Board of Kenya, CoffeePlaza Building, along the Exchange Lane, off Haile Selassie Avenue and on P.O. Box 30566–0100, Nairobi within fourteen (14) days from the date of this notice,” 

Additionally , the Coffee Board of Kenya said it proposes to issue the licences to applicants who comply with the Crops Act, 2013, the Crops (Coffee) (General) Regulations, 2019, and any other relevant written law.
