Samson Ndindi Nyoro was born in Gathukiini, Murang’a County, and grew up in a family of four children, being raised among three sisters.

Nyoro began his primary education at Gathukiini Primary School, where he studied between 1991 and 1999 before sitting for his KCPE.

As a young boy, Nyoro engaged in businesses such as repairing shoes, clothes, second-hand items, and even operating a kiosk to help support his family while he was still in school.

He later joined Kiambugi Secondary School after financial difficulties prevented him from joining his initial choice, Kiaguthu Boys. He then completed his secondary education in 2003.

Higher Education

In 2005, Nyoro joined Kenyatta University to pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics, and he graduated in 2009.

On campus, he was active in student leadership at Kenyatta University, where he served in the university’s student leadership.

Later in 2017, Nyoro joined elective politics when he successfully contested the Kiharu Member of Parliament seat.

He was elected Member of Parliament for Kiharu Constituency and subsequently retained the seat in the 2022 General Election.

Nyoro In Politics

He became particularly prominent during the political period preceding the 2022 General Election and was regarded as one of Ruto’s influential allies in Parliament.

Nyoro became one of the most prominent MP’s in Kenya’s public finance debate after he served as Chairman of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee.

He was later removed from the chairmanship in 2025, although he has remained active in economic and financial policy discussions.

Personal Life

In his personal life, Nyoro is married to Sophia Wambui, who is commonly referred to as Sophie in multiple media reports.

Reports indicate they held their traditional wedding ceremony in 2019 and have since kept information about his family away from the public eye.

On the other hand, Nyoro is widely regarded as one of Kenya’s wealthier politicians, largely because of his business background and investments made before getting into politics.

Reports based on company and market disclosures have previously identified him as a major individual shareholder in Kenya Power. A report says he held about 30 million Kenya Power shares by the end of December 2024.

Nyoro has received recognition for his political and constituency development work.

Awards

He was among politicians recognised for leadership and development initiatives, particularly in education and grassroots development.

Additionally, he was also awarded the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) during the 59th Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Furthermore, Nyoro’s political career took a major turn as he shifted from President Ruto’s UDA to the opposition, Peoples Party of Kenya (PPK).

During a press briefing, he said that this decision comes after months of consultations with several opposition figures. This happens as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.
