Parliament has begun reviewing Ndindi Nyoro’s proposal that could reduce fuel prices by up to Ksh 54 if approved. The plan targets VAT and levy changes on petrol, diesel and kerosene.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has resurfaced after skipping the crucial Finance Bill 2026 vote, issuing a public apology and admitting he failed to meet expectations.

His absence came during a late-night parliamentary sitting on Wednesday, June 18, 2026, when Members of Parliament voted on the Bill at the Third Reading.

During the session, 122 MPs voted in favour while 40 opposed the Bill, marking its final passage in the National Assembly after weeks of intense debate and amendments.

Following days of public backlash, Ndindi Nyoro acknowledged the disappointment he caused by missing the high-stakes vote.

“I want to take this very first opportunity to apologize to Kenyans for the disappointment I caused them last week during the Finance Bill vote,” he said.

Nyoro admitted that skipping the session went against his principles, especially on matters of governance and public finance.

“It is not the way I do things. Nilikosea hapo, it was not applying the duty, have been trying to do as much as possible when it comes to governance in this country, especially anything to do with public finances,” he stated.

He then described the incident as a learning moment and pledged to improve his accountability moving forward.

“Whatever happened, we have learned from it to do better and to be better representatives of the people,” he added.

Kenyans Criticise Absence, Cite Pattern in Key Votes

Meanwhile, Kenyans criticised his absence online, arguing that he missed one of the most important parliamentary decisions and should have prioritised attendance.

At the same time, some pointed to what they described as a pattern in his recent record.

They noted that he voted in favour of the Finance Bill 2024 but appeared absent during other key moments, including the Finance Bill 2025, the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and now the Finance Bill 2026.
