Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a directive to Members of Parliament from the Mt Kenya region ahead of the vote on the Finance Bill 2026.
Speaking during a public engagement and consultative meeting with Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) 2027 aspirants at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County, Gachagua urged elected leaders from the region to reject the Bill, which he described as punitive to Kenyans.
“Today’s vote at the National Assembly for or against the Finance Bill 2026 is a defining moment for the people of the Republic of Kenya,” Gachagua said.
“At the end of the day, the people of Kenya will know whether their elected representatives support measures that oppress them further or whether they care about their welfare.”
Gachagua Tells DCP-Allied MPs to Oppose Finance Bill 2026
The DCP party leader said he had instructed all MPs allied to his party to vote against the Finance Bill and remain in the House to force a division during voting.
“Our DCP Party members have clear instructions to vote against the Finance Bill 2026 and stay in the House to force a division. The people of Kenya must know who is for them and who is against them,” he said.

Gachagua also criticised lawmakers who may choose to skip the vote, saying they should be treated as being against the interests of Kenyans.
“Those members who keep away from the vote and sit on the fence must be deemed to be against the people of Kenya,” he said.
“They must make up their minds whether they are with the people or against them. There is no neutral position when the welfare of Kenyans is at stake.”
According to Gachagua, the vote on the Finance Bill will serve as a test of where elected leaders stand on issues affecting ordinary citizens.
Former DP Willing to Support Another Candidate for Presidency
At the same time, the DCP party leader said he is willing to support a candidate from among like-minded allies if his name does not appear on the ballot in the 2027 General Election presidential race.

Gachagua also accused the government of engaging in widespread looting of public funds.
“Mr William Ruto and his team are on a looting spree. Acknowledging that their game is over, they are now saying it is injury time. That is their mantra. They are looting everything from struggling Kenyans. Kenya is simply being fleeced dry,” he said.
Gachagua further claimed that with just 13 days remaining before the close of the 2024/25 financial year, the government was planning to spend Ksh 6.2 billion through a supplementary budget on expenditure items that have not been audited.
“The money is to be withdrawn in cash through votes disguised as maintenance and operations, other operating expenses, and security operations. The cash is being siphoned through the State House, the Office of the Deputy President, the State Department for Internal Security and the National Intelligence Service,” he alleged.
