Garsen Man Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison for Murder

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured a 25-year prison sentence against Salim Hukicho, 44, in a Garsen murder case involving the killing of his neighbour after a violent attack linked to suspected infidelity.
Justice Jesse Nyaga convicted Hukicho of murder under Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code after the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
“The Director of Public Prosecutions has secured a 25-year prison sentence against a 44-year-old man who brutally stabbed his neighbour over allegations of engaging in an affair with his wife,” DPP said.
Court records show that the incident occurred on the evening of September 4, 2022, in Tarasaa Township.
In this Garsen murder, Hukicho ambushed Hassan Rona inside his house and stabbed him in the abdomen without provocation.
The attack caused severe injuries, and the victim died at the scene with his intestines protruding from the wound.
Members of the public rushed Hukicho to Tarasaa Police Station and later took the victim to Malindi Sub-County Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
“Medical evidence presented by the prosecution confirmed that the victim succumbed to injuries inflicted during the vicious attack after the accused stabbed him in the abdomen, causing severe internal damage that led to his death,” the prosecution told the court.
Motive Behind the Garsen Murder
Principal Prosecution Counsel Agather Mkongo urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence and highlighted the extreme violence of the attack while stressing the need to protect the public.
Investigators established that Hukicho carried out the murder because he believed the deceased had an affair with his wife.

Court Findings in the Murder Case
However, trial evidence showed that the woman was the complainant’s former girlfriend.
“Hon. Nyaga found that the prosecution had established every element of the offence through credible witness testimony and medical evidence, leading to the conviction of Salim Hukicho and the imposition of a 25-year custodial sentence,” the court ruled.
Justice Nyaga ruled that the prosecution proved every element of the offence in the Garsen murder case and sentenced Hukicho to 25 years in prison.
The court also granted him 14 days to appeal the decision.
