Jubilee Fires Back at Ruto Over Claims Uhuru is Funding Sifuna and United Opposition

The Jubilee Party has hit back at President William Ruto after he accused retired President Uhuru Kenyatta of funding Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other members of the United Opposition.

In a statement issued on August 13, Jubilee defended Kenyatta and challenged the Kenya Kwanza administration to take responsibility for its own record after four years in office.

“Let it be said plainly: a government that has been in power for a full term cannot keep campaigning against a man who left office in 2022. At some point, leadership means answering for your own record, not recycling grievances against your predecessor as a substitute for one,” the party said.

Jubilee argued that Kenyatta, who left office in 2022, remains entitled to his peace, privacy and opinions like any other Kenyan citizen.

The Party also criticised the administration for repeatedly focusing on the former President instead of addressing the economy, jobs, taxes and the cost of living.

Jubilee Defends Uhuru Over Ruto’s Claims

Following the claims, Jubilee challenged the continued focus on Kenyatta, arguing that the administration should answer for its own performance rather than blame its predecessor.

“If retired President Kenyatta’s presence is such a threat, it is only because his record still stands as a mirror this administration would rather not look into. You do not spend four years attacking a private citizen unless his silence would say more than your speeches do,” the party said.

The party further rejected the idea that Kenyatta should remain the administration’s main political target, arguing that Kenyans expect the government to deliver solutions instead of continuing political battles with a former President.

“Kenyans did not vote for a government whose main opposition strategy is a man who is no longer even on the ballot. They voted for solutions. If the loudest thing this administration can produce four years in is another smear campaign about Uhuru Kenyatta, then perhaps it is not him who owes the country an explanation,” the party said.

Jubilee maintained that Kenyatta should not carry responsibility for the current administration’s record and said the government should focus on the issues it promised to address.

Jubilee Defends Uhuru’s Right to Speech

The party also defended Kenyatta’s right to comment on political affairs, saying he is exercising rights available to every Kenyan citizen.

Jubilee acknowledged that the government can disagree with the former President but warned against using political disagreements to make him responsible for its shortcomings.

“Consistently, he has said what he has said as a citizen exercising a right available to every Kenyan. The government is free to disagree with him. It is not free to keep making him the scapegoat for its own scorecard and incompetence,” the party said.

The response comes amid renewed political exchanges over Kenyatta’s alleged role in Opposition activities, with the former President once again featuring prominently in the political debate despite leaving office in 2022.
