Kenya Power Lists Counties Set for Sunday Power Blackouts

Kenya Power has scheduled power outages to conduct repairs and scheduled maintenance work on the electricity distribution network in some areas of Nyeri and Tharaka Nithi counties on Sunday, 26 th July 2026.

As per the utility’s maintenance advertisement, the maintenance works will cause a power outage in the State, Nyeri Golf Club, and Outspan Hospital areas.

The outage will start at 9.00 a.m. And last until 5.00 p.m.

“The power cut will interrupt the following facilities and areas: Nyeri Golf Club, the Regional Commissioner’s Offices, White Rhino, St. Cuthbert’s PCEA, Stima House, KCB, Yaya Pizzeria, Nyeri Law Courts, Advocate Plaza, Living Faith Ministries, Pembe Tatu, Kuni Vilie and Outspan Hotel, Outspan Hospital, Outspan Plaza, Mt. Kenya Hospital, KMTC PGH Nyeri and Kangemi Estate.” The board stated.

Kenya Power Scheduled Maintenance and Load Shedding in Tharaka Nithi County

According to Kenya Power, Tharaka Nithi County will also be experiencing 8 hours of load shedding during the same period.

In the public maintenance schedule done by Kenya Power, it was indicated that such an interruption is due to ongoing power maintenance scheduled for Sunday, 26, July.

It was further added that the work will be taking place between 9.00 A.M. and 5.00 P.M. In either place.

“We regret any inconvenience that may be caused during the operations,” Kenya Power said.

The utility plans regular maintenance to maintain and upgrade Electricity networks, replace aging equipment, or improve power reliability.

Kenya Power indicated the affected locations and requested its customers to be aware of the scheduled outage during these hours.

Political Inquiry into Kenya’s High Electricity Costs

This comes after President William Ruto assured Kenyans that the cost of electricity would not go up.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna had blamed the rise on corruption and expensive power purchase agreements, which make Kenyans pay high electricity bills.

On Friday, 24 July 24th, 2026, while giving an interview with Luyha media stations before the Linda Mwananchi Western tour, Sifuna stated that the country has the most expensive electricity tariffs in East Africa.

Sifuna said this is due to the corruption endemic in the energy sector as opposed to the lack of generation capacity.
