Kisumu County Government Invites Applications for Vacant Board Positions

Kisumu County Government is inviting applications for the Kisumu Rural Water and Sanitation Company (KIRWASCO) Board, with applications due by August 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

Kisumu Rural Water and Sanitation Company is a county-owned rural water service provider, supplying water and sanitation services across various regions of Kisumu in accordance with the Water Act 2023.

To enhance oversight and representation, the county is looking for qualified candidates to join the board and represent essential stakeholder groups throughout the region.

Available Positions Advertised by Kisumu Rural Water and Sanitation Company

Specifically, the vacancies are distributed across the following categories:

  • One (1) Member representing both the business and/or manufacturing community nominated following a process of open competition by the local Business Association.
  • One (1) Member representing Educational Institutions/Hospitals nominated by a professional association.
  • One (1) Member representing the Local Professionals nominated by a recognized stakeholder professional organization.
  • One (1) Member representing Domestic Consumers/Community duly nominated by the community stakeholders.
  • One (1) Member representing interest groups (Youth, Women and Persons Living with Disability) and who are water kiosk operators within the rural areas of the county.

Key Requirements

To be considered, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a university recognized in Kenya (by CUE) or equivalent qualification, i.e., professional qualifications, e.g., CPA(K), CS(K), etc.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of working experience in the core profession or have run own enterprises for a minimum of 7 years.
  • Have an endorsement letter from the stakeholders you wish to represent as indicated above.
  • Must be a resident of the area served by KIRWASCO.
  • Be above 21 years of age and below 70 years.
  • Must meet the Fit and Proper Test criteria by WASREB available at WASREB’s website www.wasreb.co.ke. The submitted copy MUST be fully signed by the applicant and authenticated by a commissioner of oaths.
  • Experience in formulating policies, strategies and business plans at senior management level in public, large private sector or NGO.
  • Demonstrate experience in business or any profession for at least 7 years.
  • Must be a member in good standing with a relevant professional body (where applicable)
  • Demonstrate participation and involvement in local development.
  • Demonstrate experience in change management.
  • Knowledge of Water Sector Reforms will be an added advantage.

Integrity and Clearance Requirements

In addition, applicants must comply with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 by providing:

  • Certificate of Good Conduct from DCI
  • Clearance from a Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
  • HELB clearance certificate
  • Tax Compliance Certificate from KRA
  • Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)

Meanwhile, the county emphasized inclusivity in the recruitment process, highlighting the importance of equal opportunity across different groups.

“Women, PWDs and persons of all Kenyan ethnicities who meet the above criteria are encouraged to apply,” the county stated.

Application Process

To complete the application, candidates must submit:

  • Letter of nomination from the stakeholder institution
  • Application letter and CV
  • Copies of academic and professional certificates
  • Fit and Proper Test documents
  • Chapter Six clearance certificates
  • Testimonials
