The Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Ports Authority, Capt. William K. Ruto, has been involved in a tragic road accident that claimed the life of his daughter.
In a statement issued on Saturday, April 4, 2026, the authority confirmed that the accident occurred on Friday evening while the CEO was travelling with his family.
“We are deeply saddened to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William K. Ruto, was involved in a tragic road accident yesterday evening while travelling with his family. Regrettably, his daughter did not survive the accident,” the statement read.
The authority extended its condolences to the CEO and his family, describing this as a period of immense grief.
According to the statement, Capt. Ruto and the rest of his family survived the accident and are currently in stable condition while receiving medical attention.
“Capt. Ruto and the rest of his family are currently in stable condition and under close medical supervision. We remain hopeful for their full and swift recovery,” the statement added.

The authority further noted that it is working closely with relevant agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident, adding that more details will be shared as they become available.
KPA also called on the public and the media to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
The authority expressed gratitude to Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir and Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime for their swift response and support following the incident.
At the same time, the authority thanked its staff, partners, stakeholders, and the general public for their continued support, patience, and cooperation.
Following the demise of the KPA CEO’s daughter, Kenyans have shared condolence messages, mourning with the family.
Social media influencer George Diano said, “Captain Ruto and the rest of his family are currently hospitalised and in stable condition. We wish them a quick recovery during this difficult time as they mourn the loss of their daughter.”

Hospitality strategist Martin Muriithi said, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic accident involving Captain Ruto of the Kenya Ports Authority and his family. Our hearts go out to him during this incredibly difficult time, especially following the heartbreaking loss of his daughter. We wish Captain Ruto and his entire family strength, comfort, and a swift recovery as they remain under close medical care. Pole sana to him and all those affected.”
He was travelling with his family, and it was then that one of his daughters, who was seated in the co-driver’s seat, succumbed to injuries. His daughter was a practising pilot.
