List of Affordable Housing Committee Members Appointed in Gachagua’s Home County

The County Government of Nyeri has nominated four individuals to serve in the County Rural and Urban Affordable Housing Committee under the Affordable Housing Act, No. 2 of 2024.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga announced the nominations and invited members of the public to submit objections within seven days.
In a public notice issued from Nyeri, the governor said the nominations follow provisions of the law that guide the formation of county housing committees.
“It is notified to the members of the public and in exercise of powers conferred to me by 34[2] of the Affordable Housing Act No.2 of 2024. that I, Dr. Mwalimu Edward Mutahi Kahiga, EGH [PhD], the Governor – Nyeri County, hereby nominate the following persons to hold the positions listed in the Nyeri County Rural And Urban Affordable Housing Committee,” the notice read.
Affordable Housing Committee Nominees
First, the governor nominated John Karoki Kagiri to serve as the Non-executive Chairperson under Section 34 [2] [a] of the Act. He then named George M Muhandi as a member representing a registered association of traders within the county.
In addition, Angella Wanjiku Mwangi will represent a registered residential association, while Grace Wanjiru Muchiri will serve as a member of the public residing in the county.
All three members will serve under Section 34 [2] [c] of the Affordable Housing Act.

Public Given Seven Days to Submit Objections
Meanwhile, the county government has urged residents to take part in the process by raising any concerns about the nominees.
Members of the public must submit their objections through written memoranda to the relevant department.
“Members of the public are hereby notified that if there is any objection to the appointment of the above nominees, that they should submit such objections through written memoranda within seven [7] days,” the notice stated.
Residents should send the memoranda to the County Executive Committee Member, Department of Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development, P.O. Box 1112-10100, Nyeri.

Next Steps After Public Participation
Finally, the governor clarified the next steps once the objection period ends. The county will review any submissions and act according to the law before confirming the appointments.
“Where no objections have been raised or where the same have been resolved through the applicable law, this Office shall proceed to appoint the persons in line with Section 34 [2] of the Affordable Housing Act, No. 2 of 2024,” the notice further read.
The formation of the committee will support the rollout of affordable housing projects in Nyeri County as leaders continue to push for increased access to decent and affordable homes.
