About the Northern Collector Tunnel
The Northern Collector Tunnel (NCT) is one of the main systems that supplies water to Nairobi and nearby towns. The project collects water from rivers in Murang’a County and channels it to Ndakaini Dam, Nairobi’s main water reservoir.

The system was built to increase the city’s water supply and help reduce shortages caused by Nairobi’s growing population. It can add up to 140 million litres of water per day, benefiting more than one million residents in Nairobi and the surrounding areas.
The NCT system also includes the Kigoro Water Treatment Plant and a network of pipelines that transport water to different parts of Nairobi.
As a result, any disruption along the pipeline can affect thousands of households, businesses, and institutions that depend on the city’s water supply.
