The National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed a viral document claiming to show OCS appointments in various Nairobi police stations, terming the list fake and cautioning members of the public against relying on the unverified information.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 5, NPS warned Kenyans against sharing the information contained in the document, saying it could mislead the public.

The document, which has circulated widely on social media, purports to show names of officers allegedly appointed to head several police stations across the capital, including Central, Pangani, Kilimani, Buruburu, Gigiri, Karen and Kayole.

However, the NPS stated that the notice did not originate from the service and does not represent any official deployment, transfer or appointment of officers.

Fake OCS Appointments List Sparks Online Confusion

The fake notice, titled “Re: Appointment of Nairobi OCSs,” claimed to announce leadership changes affecting more than 30 police stations within Nairobi County.

The document listed alleged changes involving stations such as Central, Pangani, Kilimani, Buruburu, Kasarani, Embakasi, Lang’ata, Gigiri, Karen, Kileleshwa, Runda, Riruta, Kangemi, Kayole, Dandora, Makongeni, Mowlem, Njiru, Ruai, Mukuru Kwa Reuben, Kawangware, Zimmerman, Githurai and Umoja, among others.

The NPS further urged members of the public to confirm police-related information through official channels before sharing it to avoid spreading misinformation.

Police Restructuring Brings Focus to Command Changes

Meanwhile, the clarification comes amid ongoing reforms within the National Police Service aimed at improving coordination and strengthening specialised policing operations.

As part of the restructuring, the service has enhanced specialised formations, including the Nairobi Metropolitan Police, Kenya Police Marine Unit and Kenya Police Quick Response Unit, while retaining existing units such as the General Service Unit (GSU), Traffic Police Unit and the Presidential Escort Unit.

Additionally, the new framework includes formations such as the Kenya Airports Police Unit, Kenya Railways and Ports Police Unit, K9 Police Unit, Diplomatic Police Unit, Tourist Police Unit and the Government Vehicle Check Unit.

The reforms have increased public attention on police command structures, especially after the fake Nairobi OCS appointment list created speculation over possible leadership changes in different stations.

The NPS has reiterated that genuine appointments, transfers and promotions within the police service are communicated through official statements and authorised platforms.
