Post-Mortem Confirms Cecil Ouma Died From Single Gunshot

A post-mortem examination has confirmed that youth mobiliser Cecil Ouma died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, as investigations into the fatal shooting linked to Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Jacobs Fikirini’s security detail continue.

Government pathologists who conducted the examination established that the fatal injury was caused by one bullet that penetrated Ouma’s chest.

They officially confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

The examination puts to rest speculation over the nature of Ouma’s injuries, confirming that he sustained a single fatal gunshot wound.

The findings are expected to form a key part of the ongoing police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Cecil Ouma’s Post-Mortem Findings 

One of the pathologists who conducted the examination said the findings were agreed upon by both the government-appointed and family-appointed experts.

“We have done the post-mortem as two pathologists, one representing the government and the other representing the family. And the conclusion is that he died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the left side of the chest, and there was a lot of bleeding. Inside the chest, there was internal bleeding, and that was a cause of death. We were able to retrieve the bullet head, which we have handed over for ballistic investigation to the IPOA group,” said the pathologist.

The recovered bullet is expected to undergo ballistic analysis as investigators seek to establish the firearm used in the fatal shooting and the circumstances surrounding Ouma’s death.

The medical team further confirmed that they successfully retrieved the bullet during the post-mortem examination. The projectile has since been handed over to investigators for ballistic analysis.

“We have explained that this was a gunshot wound to the chest with massive internal bleeding to the chest. Specimens, including the bullet, have been found, retrieved, along the spine, behind the spine, and it has been submitted for ballistic investigations. Of course, other specimens have been taken so as to complete fully the investigations as of now. We hand over the investigative process to the authorities so as to complete the whole story,” the pathologist added.

Fikirini Apologises to Ouma’s Family, Pledges Full Cooperation

Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Jacobs Fikirini has apologised to the family of Cecil Ouma following the fatal shooting involving members of his security team.

In a statement issued on July 2, Fikirini said he was deeply saddened by Ouma’s death and extended his heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.

The Principal Secretary pledged to fully cooperate with investigative agencies to ensure the circumstances surrounding the shooting are thoroughly established.

He revealed that he has already recorded a statement with police and confirmed that seven people, including two members of his security team, have been questioned and are assisting detectives with the investigation.

Fikirini described Ouma’s death as a painful and tragic incident, saying no family should have to endure such a loss.

He added that no young person should lose their life in such circumstances and expressed hope that the ongoing investigations would uncover the truth and deliver justice.
