Kenya Met Lists Nairobi, Other Areas to Receive Rainfall Over the Weekend

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has listed Nairobi among areas expected to receive rainfall over the weekend.

In its five-day weather forecast for the period between Friday, April 3, 2026, and Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Kenya Met issued a detailed outlook indicating continued rainfall in several parts of the country.

According to the weatherman, rainfall is expected to persist in a few areas, with amounts likely to increase towards the end of the forecast period.

Kenya Met Lists Nairobi and Other Areas that Are Likely to Receive Rainfall

In the regions of Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, mornings are expected to be characterised by light rains in a few places.

Afternoons will experience showers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period, while nights will have showers in a few areas.

Counties in these regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

For the northwestern region, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, mornings will see rains in a few places, while afternoons will experience occasional showers.

Nights will generally be partly cloudy, except on specific days such as Friday, April 3, and Tuesday, April 7 where there will be showers over a few places.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi and its environs, mornings will experience rains in a few places. Afternoons are expected to have showers and thunderstorms, while nights will be dominated by occasional showers.

Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.

Northeastern Region

In the northeastern region, covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, mornings will experience rains throughout the forecast period, while afternoons will see showers and thunderstorms.

Nights will be characterised by a chance of showers in a few places.

For the southeastern lowlands region, which comprises Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, mornings will have rains in a few areas.

Afternoons will experience showers, while nights will have a chance of showers in some places, including areas near Mount Kilimanjaro on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

In the Coast region, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as the Tana Delta, mornings will experience a chance of showers in a few places. Afternoons will have sunny intervals, while nights are expected to be partly cloudy throughout the forecast period.
