New details have emerged surrounding the sudden death of Dr Job Obwaka, a veteran Kenyan gynaecologist and board director at Nairobi Hospital, who was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital on Friday, May 1, 2026.
According to a police report filed at Kilimani Police Station, Dr Obwaka collapsed at around 7:00 p.m. on May 1, 2026, in Kitengela, where he had reportedly gone on personal errands.
He was in the company of a woman identified as Beatrice Wangare, believed to be his business associate.
“It was reported by Nairobi hospital security that today, 01/05/2026 at about 1900 hrs, Dr. Job Obwaka, a veteran kenyan gynaecologist and Nairobi hospital board director, had been brought into the facility by ambulance after collapsing in Kitengela where he had gone on personal errands,” read part of the police report.
Emergency responders rushed him to Nairobi Hospital by ambulance, but medical personnel confirmed that he had already died by the time he arrived at the facility.
Police officers from the National Police Service later visited the hospital to document the incident.

Preliminary findings indicate that Dr Obwaka had a history of underlying medical conditions, although the exact cause of his death has not yet been established.
His body was moved to Lee Funeral Home, where it awaits a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Meanwhile, the female companion, Wangare, aged 45, who was with the doctor hours before his death, has been taken into police custody as a person of interest, as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kilimani continue to probe the circumstances leading to Dr. Obwaka’s death.
Authorities have classified the case as “pending under investigation” (P.U.I), with further updates expected as investigations progress.
Following his death, leaders from across the political divide sent messages of condolence.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua described Dr Obwaka as a brave and principled man who stood for truth. He also criticised the government, saying the doctor had been harassed before his death.

Gachagua pointed to an incident on March 14, 2026, when Dr Obwaka was arrested at his clinic at the NSSF Building and taken to Muthaiga Police Station. He later appeared at Milimani Law Courts, where he fell ill and needed medical attention. He was released on a Ksh 5 million bond. Gachagua claimed the experience left him traumatised.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also sent his condolences, describing Dr Obwaka as a dedicated doctor who helped improve healthcare, especially for mothers and families. He praised his long service and impact on the medical field.
Investigations into the doctor’s death are ongoing, with many Kenyans now waiting for the postmortem results for answers.
