A Kenyan youth who became famous during the June 25, 2024, Gen Z protests after shouting “Mr Speaker Sir” inside Parliament has resurfaced after being in hiding for nearly two years.
The man, identified as Chama and popularly known online as “Mr Speaker Sir”, appeared publicly on Wednesday, June 25, 2026, alongside Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
Chama said he had been hiding for one year and nine months because he feared for his life after the anti-Finance Bill protests.
During the 2024 protests, thousands of young Kenyans stormed Parliament to oppose the Finance Bill, which they said would increase taxes and make life harder.
Viral Parliament Moment
Videos taken inside Parliament showed Chama shouting:
“Mr Speaker sir, I’m here to address you. You must go. Ruto must go. We don’t fear you guys. You hypocrites.”

The video quickly went viral on social media and made him one of the most recognised faces of the Gen Z protests.
Mr Speaker Sir Speaks About Hiding
Speaking during his resurfacing, Chama said the protests changed the lives of many young Kenyans forever.
He said many protesters lost their lives, while others disappeared or went into hiding after the demonstrations.
Among those who died was Denzel Omondi, a third-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
“Many young Kenyans lost their lives. Many Kenyans during that time had their lives changed forever,” Chama said.
“Like mine, I have been in hiding for almost one year, nine months. Now I need a change. I need to go on with my life. I need to start a new life. A life that is not about fear.”
Chama said he could no longer continue hiding because he still receives threats.
“We want to change this country, and we cannot change it by hiding,” he added.
He also said that if anyone had a problem with him, they should contact his lawyer, Babu Owino.
Babu Owino Defends Protester
During the conversation, Babu Owino defended Chama and said many Kenyans believed he had been abducted or killed after disappearing for many months.
“I thought probably the government, through DCI officers who were abducting and killing people, had killed Mr Speaker Sir,” Babu said.

The MP said the youth who stormed Parliament had genuine reasons to protest, including unemployment, high taxes, and the high cost of living.
“That Finance Bill was going to tax people to death. Because of you and other Kenyans, that Finance Bill was not signed,” Babu said.
Babu also warned the government against targeting Chama.
“If anybody has a problem with him, I’m his advocate. Go record a statement at the nearest police station and contact me,” he said.
The MP further praised Chama for standing up for Kenyans during the protests.
“The only mistake you committed was fighting against high taxation and the high cost of living,” Babu added.
