NaMATA Denies Corruption, Fake Academic Papers Allegations Against Two Top Officials

The Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NaMATA) has denied reports circulating in some media outlets and on social media accusing two of its top officials of engaging in corruption and possessing fake academic papers.

In a public notice, the board defended Ms. Rose Soila Shunet and CPA Brian Kipsang Kiptoo, stating that the allegations against them were false and intended to tarnish their reputations.

NaMATA stated, “The allegations are false and are meant to prejudice the staff.”

The authority has also validated their academic qualifications, the existence of accreditation, professional qualifications, and other professional credentials.

“It is confirmed that the two officers bear qualifications at the Master Level and are in good standing with their respective Professional Bodies,” the notice states.

NaMATA further claimed that the allegations are part of an effort to discredit the officers and the institution.

As per the authority, “It has been confirmed that the false information is being circulated by Internal and External sources with intent to disparage the Reputation of the officers and malign the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NaMATA)”.

Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) System Rollout in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area

The agency said the allegations had not affected its core business and that it remained focused on planning and managing the rollout of the multi-billion-dollar Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system across the Greater Nairobi Metropolitan Area.

“The Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority continues to deliver its mandate in the Planning and Coordination of the rollout of the Mass Rapid Transit System in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area,” NaMATA said.

NaMATA Addressing Misinformation Regarding its Officers and the MRT Project

The Authority called on the public to ignore the claims until investigations are completed.

“The Public is advised to treat the allegations as misinformation as the Agency continues to investigate,” the notice adds.
