Nairobi Lawyer Arrested Over Alleged Multi-Million Land Fraud Scheme

A Nairobi-based lawyer has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over alleged involvement in a land fraud scheme in which investigators say he attempted to unlawfully deprive a property owner of her land.

The suspect, identified as Abdulahi Musdaf Hussein, was arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District following investigations conducted by detectives attached to the DCI Headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU).

He is expected to be arraigned after police complete processing.

“Detectives from the DCI Headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) have apprehended Abdulahi Musdaf Hussein, a lawyer based in Nairobi, for his involvement in a land fraud scheme to deprive a rightful owner of her property,” the DCI said.

Investigations Lead to Arrest

According to investigators, the complainant told detectives that she had lawfully purchased the parcel of land in 2025 and had remained in peaceful possession of the property until she unexpectedly received court documents claiming ownership had been challenged.

“The complainant, who purchased her parcel of land in 2025, had been enjoying peaceful possession of the property. However, in November 2023, she was shocked to receive court documents indicating that Musdaf was claiming ownership of her land,” the DCI stated.

It was through the investigation process that it would be proved whether the documents proving ownership were authentic or not, as well as whether any criminal activities had been conducted when obtaining those documents.

ODPP Approves Charges

After completing the investigations, the file containing the case was submitted to ODPP.

The ODPP agreed with the charges recommended by the investigator against the suspect.

“Upon receiving the complaint, LFIU detectives launched investigations into the matter. Once complete, the findings were submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which agreed with the investigating officer’s recommendation to charge Musdaf with the offences of making a false document and uttering a forged document,” the DCI said.

Suspect Awaits Arraignment

Following the approval of charges by the ODPP, detectives mounted an operation to trace the suspect within Nairobi before effecting his arrest.

“As a result, Musdaf was trailed and arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District today. He has since been taken into custody and is undergoing processing in preparation for arraignment,” the DCI added.
