DCI Arrests Former Company Secretary Over Alleged Illegal Sale of Gilgil Land

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested Joseph Njuguna Kamau, a suspect linked to the alleged fraudulent transfer of a parcel of land in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

In a statement dated July 23, the DCI said detectives from its Land Fraud Investigations Unit apprehended Kamau following investigations into the disputed ownership of a parcel of land located in Kikopey, Gilgil.

“Detectives from the DCI Headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigations Unit have apprehended Joseph Njuguna Kamau, a suspect connected to the fraudulent transfer of a parcel of land in Gilgil, Nakuru County,” read part of the statement.

According to the DCI, the complainant reported that she is the rightful owner of a 0.405-hectare parcel of land, which she had purchased from a seller who held shares in Mawingu Gwikana Gwika Women Self Help Group Enterprises.

Additionally, the complainant told investigators that, despite acquiring the property, she was later evicted from the land.

The DCI said investigations established that the parcel had allegedly been fraudulently transferred and sold to another unsuspecting buyer.

“The land in question had been fraudulently sold to another unsuspecting buyer by the suspect, who was serving as the company secretary of Mawingu Gwikana Gwika Women Self Help Group Enterprises at the time of the incident,” the DCI said.

Following the completion of investigations, detectives forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved charges against Kamau.

According to the DCI, the suspect will face charges of conspiracy to defraud and obtaining registration by false pretences.

Another Suspect Arrested in Separate Land Fraud Case

The DCI said Kamau was traced to the Miharati area, where detectives arrested him before escorting him to Naivasha Police Station, and he is currently undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment at the Naivasha Law Courts.

This development comes days after DCI arrested Abdulahi Musdaf Hussein, a Nairobi-based lawyer, over alleged involvement in a land fraud scheme.

Abdulahi Musdaf Hussein was apprehended by detectives from the DCI Headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) over allegations that he attempted to fraudulently claim ownership of a parcel of land belonging to another person.

According to detectives, the complainant had purchased the land and had it when she later received court documents claiming that Hussein owned the same property.

Following the complaint, investigators launched an inquiry and forwarded their findings to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Additionally, the ODPP approved charges against Hussein for allegedly making a false document and uttering a forged document.

Hussein was arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District and taken into police custody, where he was being processed ahead of his arraignment in court.
