Kenya Met Lists Areas to Receive Rainfall in Mid-August

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecast rainfall in several parts of the country from August 15 to August 19, with some counties expected to receive light showers and rains during the latest five-day weather outlook.
According to a forecast issued on August 13, 2026, by Kenya Met, several counties will receive rainfall, while intermittent cool and cloudy conditions will affect parts of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Machakos, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Meru, and Nakuru.
To begin with, coastal counties will experience several episodes of light showers during the forecast period.
Mombasa could receive light showers on Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday mornings, as well as Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Kwale may experience showers on several mornings, while Kilifi could receive light showers on Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday mornings.
Further north, Tana River may receive light showers on Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Lamu could also experience showers on Sunday and Monday mornings, as well as Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
Kenya Met Forecasts Rainfall Northern and Eastern Kenya
Away from the coast, Kenya Met predicts rainfall in northern and eastern counties at different times.
For instance, Garissa could receive light rains on Monday morning, while Wajir may experience light rains on Monday and Wednesday mornings.
At the same time, Meru could receive light showers on Saturday afternoon and Monday and Tuesday nights. Tharaka-Nithi may experience light rains on Tuesday morning and a light shower on Saturday night.
Similarly, Embu could record light rains on Tuesday morning and showers on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday nights.

Central Kenya Counties to Receive Light Showers
Moving into central Kenya, several counties will receive light showers during the forecast period.
Nyandarua may receive light showers every afternoon. Nyeri could experience light showers on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, followed by additional rainfall on Monday and Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Kirinyaga may receive light rains on Tuesday morning and showers on several nights. Murang’a could experience light showers on Monday night, while Kiambu may receive light showers on Sunday afternoon.
In addition to the rainfall, Kenya Met expects intermittent cool and cloudy conditions across parts of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Machakos, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Meru.
For example, Nairobi could experience cloudy-to-sunny intervals during several mornings. Kajiado may record similar conditions on Sunday and Tuesday mornings, while Kiambu could experience cloudy-to-sunny intervals on several mornings alongside a light shower on Sunday afternoon.
Kenya Met Forecasts Rainfall Across Western and Rift Valley Counties
Meanwhile, rainfall will extend into western Kenya and the Rift Valley.
Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu could receive light showers on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. In addition, Uasin Gishu may experience light showers on Saturday and Sunday nights.
Similarly, Elgeyo-Marakwet could receive light showers on Monday and Tuesday afternoons, as well as Saturday and Sunday nights.
Further south, Nakuru could receive moderate showers on Monday afternoon before experiencing light showers on Tuesday. Laikipia may also receive light showers on Sunday and Monday.
In the southern Rift Valley, Narok could receive light rains on Wednesday and light showers on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
At the same time, Kericho may experience light rains on Wednesday morning and light showers from Sunday through Wednesday afternoons. Bomet could receive light rains on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, together with afternoon showers.

Western and South-Western Counties Face More Showers
Beyond the Rift Valley, several western counties will also receive rainfall.
Kakamega and Vihiga could experience light showers on several afternoons. Bungoma may receive light rains on Monday morning and showers on Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday afternoons.
Similarly, Busia could receive light rains on Monday and Tuesday mornings, alongside showers on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
Siaya and Kisumu may receive light showers on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, while Kisumu could also experience additional showers on Tuesday afternoon.
Further south-west, Homa Bay may receive light showers on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Migori and Kisii could experience light showers from Monday through Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Nyamira may receive light rains on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, as well as showers on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.
Counties to Experience Cooler Temperatures
Alongside the rainfall, the forecast points to notably cool temperatures in parts of central Kenya.
Nyandarua could record minimum temperatures of between 8°C and 9°C, while Nyeri may record lows of between 9°C and 12°C. Nakuru’s minimum temperatures could range between 9°C and 13°C.
Elsewhere, Marsabit could record minimum temperatures of about 15°C throughout the forecast period, while Nairobi’s minimum temperatures could range between 9°C and 13°C.
